New Year, New Night

New Year, New Night

We're only on day three of the new year and I'm already making good on my word to bring ever more good tunes, good people, and good vibes together in 2017.

You're welcome.

In all seriousness though, I'm excited to announce that, along with fellow DJs Mr. Grant and Such N Such, Tunesdays has found a physical home at BAR FLUXUS in San Francisco on Tuesday, January 10.

This feels poetic; full circle, if you will. BAR FLUXUS, in addition to being co-owned by Spike who also owns Madrone (a place I've been a resident DJ at for a decade now), is located at the back of the Hotel des Arts. For those who lived in the Bay when I was but a fledgling San Franciscan, you might remember that name. The Hotel des Arts was the physical home to many of my first art shows, early digital projects, and events for the first few startups I co-founded. I was even thinking about an old event from 2008 back in November, before this opportunity even came up, when I helped kick off GoTellMama! I'm for Obama, a traveling art exhibition and installation of Barack Obama inspired art work that traveled all over the United States. Ah, the good ol' days...

While ten out of twelve months of 2016 were actually spectacular for me (my first trip to the Arctic Circle, dogsledding in polar night, my first sailing trip, my first time in Scandinavia, the list goes on...) November and December left bitter, sad, angering tastes in my mouth. Like many others, by the time December 31st rolled around, I was pretty happy to see the end o 2016. However, I have few illusions that 2017 will magically be better simply because I want it, need it, to be. It will be better, for me personally, if I do my part to create a better future for all by leveraging the gifts and privileges I have. It will be better if I surround myself with the fine company of folks like yourself and maintain, then expand, that strong, diverse and oh-so-lovely social fabric. It will be better if I acknowledge what motivates me and summon strength outwards from there. And really, what motivates me is pretty simple. I'm motivated by peace, justice, and finding beauty in things like a good meal, indelible art, slapping bass lines, and fine tequila.

All these things (and much, much more) can be found at BAR FLUXUS on January 10. Help me build towards the year and world we all need, want and deserve β€” with tequila in hand, thick bass vibrating our bones, good conversations to be had, and new friends to make.

Click play and check out the song below by Terri Walker, a German-speaking Brit born to Jamaican parents, for a taste of the kind of vibe to expect. We're keeping it pretty format-free. You can simply expect good tunes that fight fascism, one dope beat at a time. Dance shoes not required but, as always, very welcome.
